Down in The Basement With Joe Bussard

This has got to be one of the best ideas I've seen in quite a long time. In case you don't already know, Joe Bussard is a legend among music collectors: he owns one of the largest private collections of 78 records, numbering in the tens of thousands. It only seems a natural fit, then, that Marshall Wyatt of Old Hat Records would team up with Bussard to dig up a handful of tunes from Bussard's collection and release them.

But, this is no run-of-the-mill reissue. Think of it as a dedication to a man and his music obsession. You see, along with the 24 tracks of rare songs from the early part of the 20th century, you also get a comprehensive 72 page booklet which presents the history of Joe Bussard and his massive record collection. To be honest, this isn't really about the music---the 24 songs presented here are barely a drop in the proverbial bucket when seen in the light of the thousands of records lining the basement shelves. This release is about the love of music, about why we as fans seek it out and treasure it. Joe Bussard just happens to be the king, representing us all in our quirky little hobby.

My advice would be to buy this CD and celebrate why you love music. Happy listening.
